Barry McFadzean – Business Strategy, Fund-raising, Mergers & Acquisitions, Board Composition
Barry McFadzean has some 50 years experience working with a wide range of businesses from large international companies to start-ups. He is currently Chairman and Co-Founder of QucomHaps Holdings Ltd., a privately-held early stage company based in Dublin. The group offers stratospheric communications infrastructure using HAPS (High Altitude Platform Stations) to provide cellular, broadband and broadcast access.
After education at Winchester College in England and serving two years as a National Service officer in the British Army, Barry received an Honours Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Christ Church, Oxford, before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., now KPMG. He served for more than 20 years in international investment banking, including a period as a corporate finance director with S G Warburg — now part of UBS — in the City of London. More recently he has specialized in working with entrepreneurs.
Barry has served as non-executive chairman of a fully-quoted company employing 7,000 people with a turnover of £70m., and of several private companies. He also served as a non-executive director of a company listed on AIM (the Alternative Investment Market) and of an early stage air taxi company in the UK operating Mustang business jets.
Having a life-long interest in aviation, Barry has earned a Private Pilot License and has served as European Adviser for, and participated in, the London/Sydney Centenary Air Race in 2001.
