Tony Velocci – Thought Leadership and Editorial Services
Tony Velocci retired as Editor-in-Chief of Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine and Editorial Director, Aviation Week Group, in 2012. He remains deeply engaged in the aerospace industry as an advisor and a speaker and writing for various publications.
Tony joined Aviation Week in 1989 as senior business editor, and later became Northeast Bureau Chief, based in New York City. While at Aviation Week, Tony received numerous awards including the distinguished McGraw-Hill Corporate Achievement Award for Editorial Excellence and the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Aerospace Journalist of the Year. He led Aviation Week’s analytical coverage of the aerospace industry’s massive consolidation from the early 1990s through 2002, the industry’s rapid globalization, and the on-going struggle of suppliers to adapt to the changing business landscape. In 1994, he developed Aviation Week’s Top-Performing Companies study, a closely followed benchmarking tool used to measure the competitiveness and operating performance of publicly-traded companies.
As bureau chief and later chief editor, he led or co-chaired various international forums on innovation and cross-border collaboration, and co-chaired annual aerospace Executive Summits on critical challenges facing the industry.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Aeronautic Association, a member of the Industry Advisory Board at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a charter member of the Board of Advisors of the University of Tennessee’s Aerospace MBA program.
